Now that there is a new model coming with a glorious flat six—just think what the prices on the 4 cylinder 718 GTS’s will be.
I have not driven one, but by all accounts it is an amazing sports car:

For the record, Matt Farah reviewed the 981 GT4 & a 718 GTS in on video that is worth watching:

Idk. I think they’ll still hold fairly well.
On the regional Pca FB page, there was an article on 718 sales are dropping. To which the author made the obvious point, no shit prices are where the 911 was 10-15 years ago.

The base price for a 911 in 2005 was $69,000. Accounting for inflation, that would be $89,000 in today’s money.
The b ase price for a 2020 911 is $97,000, that is a bit above inflation that’s for sure. But in regards to the 718 Boxster, it’s starts at $64,000 today, which is is still substantially cheaper if you include inflation.
However, the base price for a 2020 718 Cayman is $100,000, so it literally cost more than a new 911. Of course it’s only available in GT4 trim.

I think t he 718 GTS 4.0 is really to satisfy an emotional gap that the turbo-4 doesn’t fill. While the turbo may technically be better, it’s not ‘ better’ for someone who wants the sound and peace-of-mind that there are still six cylinders behind them (even though half of them might be inactive when cruising ).
I’ve driven the 981 GTS and 718 S (both were PDK) and the 718 didn’t leave anything to be desired from a performance standpoint.
Now that the six is available in 718 GTS, it will be interesting to see where 981 prices go, as I think you’ll have some 981 S/GTS customers finally moving up to the 718.

I did about 500 miles in a four-banger GTS this summer, and the engine was my only complaint about that car. It was an absolutely joyless, if not punchy, affair that gave you no reward with increasing revs, just more speed. Everything else about the car was lovely, even the PDK, but the engine really held that car back from being a perfect experience.
I can’t see current GTS prices holding up particularly well with a 6 cylinder returning, but with modern Porsches it’s honestly tough to know.

For those who can stand the sound and character of the 4 cylinder GTS, I’m sure there will be some great deals to be had. Personally, I would never consider one regardless of the discount vs. The 4.0. I’ve had a base 718 as a loaner multiple times a nd that engine absolutely ruined the car

Test drove a 718 GTS when my 997 C4S was being serviced.
It’s a fantastic thing to drive. Simply glorious. I didn’t mind the engine note or power delivery. Does it sound as spine tingly amazing as the 3.8L in mine? No. I also didn’t think it sounded like a Subaru either. I kinda liked it. Also, damn, the torque of the thing. With the excellent PDK, I’ve no doubt it would be a far more satisfying Porsche to DD than my car was. But...not being a 2+2 it’s just a bit too tight for my frame. For me, I’d look at base 991.2 Carreras instead.
Deals can already be had on leftover models. My dealer was knocking %20 off of the MSRP on old-new stock.

but a boxster was only 44 so wiht inflation it comes to @44, so its roughly 20% more than inflation
